2020 has been a wierd year, for the past few years we have got into a rhythm that by the time about October comes, we will be doing a lot of monogramming and personalisation events. However this year, that didnt happen.

We could not just sit idly by though and not have an event, so we created one for ourselves. Along with a whole host of fabulous creators, we joined togather in the Service on Savile Row to create The Marketplace.

Sadly with the rerestricting of London going into tier 4, the marketplace is now closedbut we had great (safe) fun whilst we could- which feels like the whole of 2020 summed up dont you think?

Hawthorne & Heaney supports the BTBA

Around this time of year, the Bespoke Tailors’ Benevolent Association meet to hold their inaugural festival dinner and Auction to raise funds to support the trade. The BTBA was established when two charities; the Master Tailors’ Benevolent Association (est. 1887) and the Tailors’ Benevolent Institute (est. 1861) merged together. Beneficiaries include tailors, woollen merchants and those from associated trades and suppliers.

Our Director Claire Barrett was there this year to represent Hawthorne & Heaney and assist in the smooth running of the evening as a new steward. A special acknowledgement to should be made to Geoff Wheeler of Dugdale Bros. & Co. who was this years Appeal Chairman and gave the address.  As we share an office with the Dugdales gentlemen, we can assure Geoff that all his rehearsals were well worth it for a job well done.

The BTBA relies on the generosity of the business and individuals which it supports so Hawthorne & Heaney were very proud to have contributed to the BTBA’s head table, table cloth. Dugales provided the Navy Barathea for the cloth itself and Hawthorne & Heaney donated the hand embroidered Gold Cut Work Crest.

The Gold Cut Work is quite a laborious process involving the design being fully padded and prepared before the decorative gold can be introduced. This can be seen on the left of the images above  with the padding exposed, and on the right the cut work application.Hawthorne & Heaney supports the BTBA London Hand Embroidery

All this preparation gives the embroidery a very rich effect by elevating the embroidery from the surface of the cloth. Once the piece is fully filled and symmetrical, all will agree that the effect is quite striking.

Hawthorne & Heaney visits Donna Ida Denim SS15

November 6, 2014 by Natasha Searls-Punter

We know when the festive season is nearly here when the ladies of Hawthorne & Heaney start heading off around town to be seen stitching in all sorts of places. Last month saw the launch of the new Donna Ida Denim SS15 collection to which a few lucky ladies were invited to join the Ida team at the Grosvenor House Apartment Penthouse suite.

It was a very glamorous affair with cocktails by Hoxton Gin  and dinner served overlooking Park Lane and one of our ladies  monogramming the denim goodie bags for the guests.

All the guest had an introduction to the new collection, modelled wonderfully by the model and staff as well choosing their monogram colour and having a glimpse into their monograms being stitched live.

If you would be interested in having one of out ladies stitching at your next event, get in contact with Hawthorne & Heaney, email us at info@hawthorneandheaney.com or call 0208 226 0164.
