Hawthorne & Heaney on Roses

March 22, 2019 by Natasha Searls-Punter

By compairson to last week’s post and the scale of the embroideries that we produced for the patches, this little job may seem insignificant. However we can’t help but get excited about pieces like this whether we are producing 2 pieces or 200 of them in the end.Hawthorne & Heaney on Roses London Hand Embroidery

We were approached and asked to use this tudor rose image to create a pair of freestanding embroidered embelums to go onto a bespoke cape which one of our tailors was working on. By adding raisings into the piece we were able to give the piece some body despite the fact that they are not onto a fabric base.

You can see from the scale of the hand just how little they really are.

Here they are in situ where they will get to live against this gorgeous velvet collar. Aren’t they just so cute?!?

Hawthorne & Heaney: Intern Projects

August 30, 2018 by Natasha Searls-Punter

Hawthorne & Heaney: Intern Projects London Hand Embroidery

Hawthorne & Heaney has been very fortunate to have a series of wonderful students who come to the studio as interns to learn about the industry and experience a working studio. But what do they actually do while they are with us I hear you ask?

What they work on day to day is very changeable but for our longer term interns we like them to have a project of their own ongoing whilst they are with us. The gorgeous images you see here are from our most recent intern, Elsie Wong who was working on some floral motifs for us along side her other duties.

She draws on her Singaporean heritage and Central Saint Martins experience to bring her clean yet delicate style to these pieces.

She then went on to translate one of the pieces into embroidery using one of the techniques learnt in her classes at the London Embroidery School, specifically Limerick Lace.

Here is is presenting her final piece to us demonstrating the design process from design, to draft, to embroidery.  I’m sure you will agree, great job Elsie! What do you think?

Hawthorne & Heaney: Intern Projects London Hand EmbroideryIf this has taken your fancy and you would like to join us as an intern, please see the internships blog or jobs section of the website for application as we are currently looking for someone to join us for an immediate start.

Hawthorne & Heaney on Joshua Kane SS17

August 4, 2016 by Natasha Searls-Punter

Hawthorne & Heaney on Joshua Kane SS17 London Hand EmbroideryOur regular readers will be familiar with the long standing creative relationship that Hawthorne & Heaney have with Joshua Kane and his SS17 collection was no exception. This season we produced a series of tie pin/brooch roses which embellished a large proportion of the collection.

Hawthorne & Heaney on Joshua Kane SS17 London Hand Embroidery The show itself was sharp but beautiful as is Kane’s house style with a sumptuous 3D fabric rose on the lapels. Hawthorne & Heaney on Joshua Kane SS17 London Hand Embroidery

The roses are available in Black Satin, Teal Velvet, Crushed Purple Velvet and Printed Black and White Silk. Below is a little taste of the looks from the runway. They lend themselves well to both embellishing a dinner jacket or adding a sartorial touch to a more casual suit jacket. Hawthorne & Heaney on Joshua Kane SS17 London Hand Embroidery

Along with being worn on clothing, Kane has also shared the roses styled with some of his other accessories: Hawthorne & Heaney on Joshua Kane SS17 London Hand Embroidery

And here is the man himself sporting his own Crushed Purple Velvet Rose. Hawthorne & Heaney on Joshua Kane SS17 London Hand EmbroideryWe can not wait to see what they produce next season!
